William J. Schaefer, 79, of Quakertown, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at Arden Courts in Easton, after a courageous journey with Alzheimer's disease.
Born on April 2, 1947, in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late William and Elizabeth (Rogers) Schaefer.
A graduate of West Catholic High School's Class of 1965, Bill proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. After receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1970, he returned home and earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from La Salle University in 1974.
Bill built a successful career as an accountant, working for Vicks and later Procter & Gamble before retiring.
A man who appreciated life's simple pleasures, Bill enjoyed cheering on the Phillies, Eagles, and 76ers, reading, watching movies, reminiscing about growing up in Southwest Philly, swimming regularly at the YMCA, and taking long walks around Quakertown each day. Nothing, however, compared to the joy he found spending time with his family at the Jersey Shore. His favorite role was "Pop Pop." Whether playing with his grandchildren, watching them grow, or simply being together, those moments brought him his greatest happiness.
Bill will be remembered for his quiet strength, gentle nature, steady presence, and unwavering devotion to his family. His kindness and love will be remembered always by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his beloved son, Brian Schaefer, who passed away in 1983, and his sister, Jane Thompson.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Margaret (Lydon) Schaefer, whom he married on September 20, 1975; his daughter, Meghan Pearce and her husband, James; his son, Sean Schaefer and his wife, Catherine; and his cherished grandchildren, Henry and Theodore Schaefer, and Madeleine and Joseph Pearce.
Services will be private and held for the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bill's memory to the Alzheimer's Association https://Alzheimer's Association
Arrangements are in the care of the C.R. Strunk Funeral Home, Inc., Quakertown.
Bill will be laid to rest beside his son, Brian, at Washington Crossing Cemetery.
