John Vincent Uerkvitz, 84, of Coopersburg, PA, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Saturday, April 18, 2026.
Born on March 22, 1942, in Abington, he was the son of the late John Joseph and Elsie Marie (Morelli) Uerkvitz.
A graduate of Bensalem High School’s Class of 1961, he was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He served two years overseas, then returned home in 1966, receiving an Honorable Discharge.
John began a career in early Information Technology, working as a Data Processor with a service center. He was later recruited by Bucks County Courthouse to run their mainframe computers, working his way up to the Data Processing Department Manager—a position he enjoyed until his retirement in 1998.
Outside of work, John took pleasure in a variety of interests: flounder fishing, bowling, playing on the Courthouse’s softball team until he retired, watching the Eagles, Phillies, and Flyers, enjoying sweet treats (particularly a Tastykake or Dairy Queen ice cream), spending time at Wildwood Crest with family, and traveling to warmer climates like the Bahamas or Bermuda. In his retirement, he became an avid landscaper, transforming the property around his home. Above all, though, his greatest joy was spending time with his family—coaching his daughters in softball and later hosting Movie Night with PopPop, which was always well-stocked with a range of sugary snacks.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter: Cindy Atherholt, who tragically passed away on December 4, 2024.
John will be lovingly remembered by his wife of fifty-eight years: Sharon Louise (Parris) Uerkvitz, to whom he wed on June 24, 1967; daughters: Holly Palmer (Josh) and Randy Curtis (Kenny); grandchildren: Kendra, Johnathan, Noah, River, Willow, Alexa, and Cole; great-grandchildren: Landon and Owen; sister: Tina Sexton; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made—in John’s memory—to St. Luke’s Hospice.
Arrangements are in the care of the C.R. Strunk Funeral Home, Inc., Quakertown.
