Giovanni Martello

Giovanni Martello, 94, of Quakertown formerly of West Philadelphia died Thursday, May 28, 2026 in his home. He was the husband of the late Santa G. (Riillo) Martello who died September 2019.

Born in Gasperina Catanzaro, Italy he was the son of the late Saverio & Theresa (Papasodero) Martello.

He retired from the Carpenter Union Local 8 in Philadelphia after 30 years of service. In his early years from the age of 12 to 18 he was a shoemaker’s apprentice in his hometown and from the age of 18-20 he was employed by Guanta the most prestigious shoe company in Argentina.

He was a member of St. Isidore’s Catholic Church in Quakertown and a former member of St. Donato’s Catholic Church in West Philadelphia.

Giovanni enjoyed woodworking, tending to grapes and the making of wine. He enjoyed Italian Folk and Opera music, and also played the Clarinet in his hometown band. He also enjoyed gardening and raising fig trees. He also raised chickens and was good with all animals especially his dogs Pepper and Zoey.

In addition to his wife and parents he was predeceased by a sister Emilia Previterra.

He is survived by his children Sam (Judy) of Quakertown; Theresa of Culver City, California; and Tony (Melissa) of Douglasville, PA. 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

A Mass will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. in St. Isidore’s Catholic Church 2545 W. Pumping Station Road Quakertown, PA 18951. Call from 10:00-11:00 A.M. in the church.

Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Huntingdon Valley, PA.

In lieu of flowers you may honor Giovanni’s memory in the form of Mass Cards.
